Ammonia Leak Injures Over 20 at Tamil Nadu Seafood Factory
An ammonia gas leak at St. Peter's Paul Seafoods Exports in Tamil Nadu's Thiruvallur district has injured over 20 individuals, prompting the deployment of a specialized NDRF team. This incident is part of a concerning trend of ammonia-related incidents in the region, potentially indicating systemic safety issues in seafood processing facilities.

On Sunday, an ammonia leak occurred at St. Peter's Paul Seafoods Exports in Kannigaipair, Thiruvallur district, injuring more than 20 people. The NDRF's 4th Battalion dispatched a 30-member CBRN team to manage the situation, equipped with protective gear and gas detectors.
A similar incident in December 2023 in Chennai resulted in over 50 hospitalizations, while another in July 2024 saw 29 women workers hospitalized. The repeated nature of these leaks raises concerns about safety protocols in Tamil Nadu's seafood processing sector, which may require stricter regulatory oversight to prevent future occurrences.
