Amphos 21 to Model Nuclear Waste Disposal for Posiva's Finland Repository Project
Amphos 21, part of the RSK Group, is collaborating with Posiva Oy on the world's first underground nuclear waste repository in Finland. The project, initiated in 2022, aims for completion by late 2026 or early 2027, utilizing advanced hydrogeochemical modeling and the EuroHPC JU supercomputer, LUMI, to enhance long-term safety assessments.

Amphos 21 is tasked with modeling for Posiva Oy's underground repository for spent nuclear fuel in Finland, marking the world's first such facility. The deep geological disposal project began in 2022 and is slated for completion by late 2026 or early 2027. It aims to improve safety assessments using advanced reactive hydrogeochemical modeling combined with the EuroHPC JU supercomputer, LUMI, which has computing power equivalent to 1.5 million laptops, to simulate subsurface processes over thousands of years.
