Andhra Pradesh Targets 960 MW Polavaram Hydel Power Commissioning by July 2027
Andhra Pradesh aims to commence power generation from the 960 MW Polavaram Hydel Power Project by July 2027, with full project completion expected by December 2028. Chief Secretary K Vijayanand emphasized the importance of ensuring reliable 24x7 power supply during the summer months as demand rises. The project, featuring 12 Kaplan turbine units, will contribute 23 million units of clean energy per day, providing an annual benefit of approximately ₹1,250 crore.

Andhra Pradesh plans to begin power generation at the 960 MW Polavaram Hydel Power Project by July 2027 and complete the project by December 2028. Chief Secretary K Vijayanand directed power utilities to maintain a reliable 24x7 electricity supply amid rising demand during the summer.
The project includes 12 Kaplan turbine units, expected to generate 23 million units of hydro power per day, with anticipated annual benefits of ₹1,250 crore. Recent energy demand reached 236.91 MU, with projections suggesting a rise to 250-260 MU by March. The Chief Secretary highlighted the need for meticulous scheduling and enhanced renewable integration to ensure grid stability.
