Darin Bethel, president of the Andros Chamber of Commerce, raised concerns regarding the government's $20 million power purchase agreement for three hybrid power plants in Nicholls Town, Fresh Creek, and The Bluff. The project is expected to generate a total of 7.2 megawatts, combining 5.6 megawatts from liquefied natural gas and 1.6 megawatts from solar energy with battery storage.
Bethel noted the community's longstanding issues with inconsistent power supply and questioned the timing of the announcement, suggesting it may be politically motivated ahead of the upcoming election. Construction is estimated to take 18 months.
