Ansonia Residents Oppose Proposal for 14 Apartments at Former Police Station Site
Residents of Ansonia voiced strong opposition to a proposal to convert the former police station on Elm Street into 14 apartments, citing concerns over parking and traffic safety in the historic district. At a public hearing, most speakers, including two newly elected Aldermen, expressed fears about the project's impact on property values and children's safety, prompting calls for a traffic study. The planning and zoning commission will revisit the proposal at their next meeting on December 29.

Residents of Ansonia expressed concerns about a proposal to convert the former police station on Elm Street into 14 apartments, citing potential parking issues in the historic district. At a public hearing on December 8, eight speakers addressed the proposal, with seven opposing it, including two newly elected Aldermen, while one supported it.
Developer Fredi Lalaj seeks a special exception for the project, which includes 19 parking spaces. Previously, Lalaj intended to install a data center on the site but abandoned that plan after the prospective tenant went bankrupt.
Community members highlighted traffic issues, with calls for a traffic study, and expressed fears regarding safety for children during school times. Concerns were raised about the impact on property values in the historic district. The planning and zoning commission will reconsider the proposal at their next meeting on December 29.
