Appalachian Power to Upgrade Transmission System in Botetourt County
Appalachian Power is set to enhance its electric transmission infrastructure in Botetourt County to address increasing electricity demand. A public open house will provide residents with project details ahead of the application filing with the Virginia State Corporation Commission this summer.

Appalachian Power plans to upgrade approximately seven miles of 138-kilovolt transmission lines and rebuild about 10 miles of existing lines and structures in Botetourt County. The Daleville Area Transmission Improvements Project includes enhancements to Cloverdale, Trinity, Mount Union, and Botetourt substations, as well as the construction of a new substation and additional transmission line.
A public open house will take place at Read Mountain Middle School on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Residents will receive information packets, with construction expected to start in fall 2027 and continue until late 2029 if the Virginia State Corporation Commission approves the application.
