Approval Pending for Major Battery Storage Facility in the UK
NatPower's proposal for a one-gigawatt battery energy storage system near Eastchurch is poised for approval. This facility aims to enhance renewable energy efficiency and support the UK's climate goals.

NatPower seeks approval from Swale Borough Council for a one-gigawatt (GW) battery energy storage facility on 49 acres of farmland near Eastchurch. This facility, named Old Rides Energy Storage, will store energy from renewable sources, helping to stabilize the electrical grid and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
If approved, it will be one of the largest in the UK, alongside a similar facility in Teesside that is expected to be operational by 2028. Residents have raised concerns regarding noise and potential impacts on the community and wildlife. The planning committee will meet to decide on the proposal.
