Archangel Lightworks Raises £10M Series A for Optical Ground Infrastructure Expansion
Archangel Lightworks has successfully closed a £10 million Series A funding round to enhance its TERRA-M optical ground station technology. This investment addresses the satellite industry's pressing need to overcome the 'downlink deficit' by providing advanced laser communication solutions.

Archangel Lightworks has raised £10 million in an oversubscribed Series A funding round, aimed at commercializing its TERRA-M optical ground station. The investment, led by Santander Alternative Investments, includes participation from NSSIF, Blackfinch Ventures, Oxford Capital, Lycka Limited, and OSE, and targets the satellite industry's 'downlink deficit' by offering gigabit-per-second and future terabit-per-second laser link capabilities.
The TERRA-M technology aims to facilitate high-volume data backhaul for a variety of applications, including climate monitoring and secure communications. With plans to scale manufacturing in Oxford and target 2027 for deployment, Archangel Lightworks is positioning itself as a key player in the optical communications market. Failure to address the growing demand for efficient space-to-ground communication could hinder advancements in various sectors.
