Archbald, Pennsylvania, Set to Host Five Major Data Centers Amid Local Concerns
DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE
Archbald, Pennsylvania, is preparing to host five massive data centers, totaling 13 million square feet across 51 buildings. The largest center will demand 1.6 gigawatts of electricity, raising concerns about grid capacity and power bills among residents.
In November, the borough council increased the building height limit from 55 to 90 feet to facilitate these developments. These data centers could produce over $4 million in property taxes annually, significantly impacting the borough's budget. Pennsylvania's favorable tax incentives have led to 32 proposed data centers statewide, though public opposition has resulted in some project cancellations.
