Arizona Taskforce Proposes Virtual Power Plants and Solar Expansion to Address Energy Demand
Arizona's Energy Promise Taskforce has issued 31 recommendations aimed at deploying virtual power plants and distributed solar to manage a projected 40% rise in peak demand. These initiatives are critical for modernizing the state's energy grid while mitigating costs for consumers amid industrial growth.

The Arizona Energy Promise Taskforce has proposed a strategic roadmap to modernize the energy grid, calling for 2,000 MW of new battery storage by 2025 and emphasizing virtual power plants (VPPs) for peak demand. Arizona ranks 4th in the U.S. for cumulative solar capacity with 19 GW installed, powering over 1.7 million homes, and solar constitutes 16.8% of the state's electricity generation.
The solar and storage sectors have attracted a cumulative investment of $23.7 billion, employing nearly 9,800 individuals across 365 companies. The task force's recommendations will be presented to the Arizona Corporation Commission to guide regulatory decisions and resource strategies.
