Army Launches Joint Innovation Outpost to Enhance Acquisition Processes
The XVIII Airborne Corps' Joint Innovation Outpost (JIOP) aims to expedite the Army's acquisition processes, enabling faster delivery of capabilities. By operationalizing acquisition functions at the tactical level, the JIOP is designed to foster direct feedback from soldiers, improving technology integration and program transitions.

The Joint Innovation Outpost (JIOP) opened in January at Fort Bragg, N.C., operationalizing acquisition for the XVIII Airborne Corps with decision authority for up to $50 million in research and development. This initiative is part of the Army's Pathway for Innovation and Technology (PIT), which aims to enhance capabilities by embedding acquisition professionals with soldiers.
Future exercises, such as Scarlet Dragon, will involve vendors responding to challenges between execution days to validate technologies, leading to better outcomes. The JIOP connects soldier feedback with the larger Army acquisition process, enabling rapid transition of effective solutions to broader units. This new structure is expected to streamline communication and improve the development of military technologies.
