Army National Guard Develops Drone Recovery System with Research Lab Partnership
The Pennsylvania Army National Guard is collaborating with the Army Research Laboratory on an enemy drone recovery prototype, Project RED, which leverages AI technology. This initiative emerged as a winner at the recent Best Drone Warfighter competition, aiming to enhance operational capabilities in drone recovery and data acquisition.

The Pennsylvania Army National Guard is developing Project RED, an AI-driven enemy drone recovery system, in partnership with the Army Research Laboratory. This initiative, which won the Best Innovation award at the February Best Drone Warfighter competition, features an unmanned system designed to retrieve downed enemy drones and transport them for data analysis.
The project is a part of a one-year R&D agreement focused on enhancing autonomy and stability in flight controls. Soldiers are advocating for improved training programs for drone operations and proposing future competition enhancements, including electronic warfare scenarios and new transport systems for drones. The Army aims to expand the competition's challenges in subsequent years.
