Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet Approves Hydropower Incentives and Governance Reforms

The Arunachal Pradesh cabinet, led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, has approved several initiatives on January 31, 2025, focusing on hydropower development, recruitment reforms, and governance improvements. Key decisions include replacing the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 with a Bill for appointing a retired officer as chairperson of the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board.

The cabinet also approved SGST reimbursement for the 1,200 MW Kalai II and 680 MW Attunli hydroelectric projects, with a combined investment of Rs 21,700 crore, expected to generate free power worth Rs 458 crore annually. Additionally, the cabinet sanctioned the creation of 150 special education teaching posts and approved the Electronic Inner Line Permit system. The Arunachal Pradesh Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026 was approved to decriminalise minor offences to improve the ease of doing business.
