Arunachal Pradesh Deputy CM Calls for Fast-Tracking Hydropower Projects at Bharat Electricity Summit 2026
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein emphasized Arunachal Pradesh's significant hydropower potential at the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, noting it accounts for over 38% of India's total. He urged for strategic central support to expedite viable projects through CPSUs, address infrastructure gaps, and enhance transmission capacities. Mein proposed extending the ISTS charge waiver to 2035 and highlighted the need for investments to support the state's hydropower development in line with the 'Viksit Bharat 2047' vision.

At the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein stressed Arunachal Pradesh's 58,000 MW hydropower potential, representing over 38% of India's capacity. He called for central support to fast-track viable projects via CPSUs and to enhance intra-state and interstate transmission infrastructures.
Mein proposed developing 220 kV networks and extending the ISTS charge waiver until 2035 to ensure tariff viability. He underscored the need for improved roads and bridges to support project execution, aligning with the 'Viksit Bharat 2047' vision for strategic investments in hydropower.
