Ashland Proposes $48M Bond for Community Wildfire Protection Plan Implementation
Ashland City Council is considering a municipal bond of up to $48 million to implement its Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). This funding aims to enhance wildfire resilience and community preparedness in the face of increasing wildfire threats.

The Ashland City Council is evaluating a proposal for a municipal bond, potentially reaching $48 million, to finance the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). The updated CWPP focuses on boosting home-hardening standards and achieving a 90% compliance rate for community-wide wildfire readiness.
Currently, funding for the CWPP is insufficient, with existing water utility surcharges projected to take decades to meet needs. The city anticipates generating around $950,000 annually from a water bill wildfire mitigation fee.
A proposed additional $33 fee would help cover bond costs, and $10 million in grants is needed to support the initiative. Addressing wildfire risks is urgent for community safety, as noted by council members. The council is forming a working group to explore funding avenues.
