Aspen Aerogels Lists Georgia Manufacturing Facility After Halting Second Plant Plans
Aspen Aerogels Inc. has listed its manufacturing facility in Statesboro, Georgia, for $35.2 million after abandoning plans for a second plant. The 90-acre site at Bruce Yawn Commerce Park includes access to major transportation corridors and future development plans for nearly 500,000 square feet.
Aspen had previously secured a loan commitment of up to $671 million from the U.S. Department of Energy for this site, aimed at manufacturing PyroThin aerogel blankets to prevent lithium-ion battery fires in electric vehicles.
However, construction was halted in February. The company plans to focus on increasing aerogel production capacity in East Providence and explore opportunities in data centers and the European automotive markets.
