AST Space Mobile Delayed Launch of DTC Service to 2027-2028 Due to Blue Origin Setbacks
AST Space Mobile's commercial service launch is now projected for H1 2027 to 2028, following delays from Blue Origin's launch issues. This delay affects the development of a critical satellite constellation for direct-to-cellphone service.

AST Space Mobile has postponed its initial commercial services to the first half of 2027 or into 2028 due to setbacks from Blue Origin, specifically an explosion during a launchpad test on May 28, 2026. This incident is compounded by a previous failure during an April 19 mission.
Analysts highlight that the operational timeline is further impacted by additional time needed for satellite deployment and testing, with a minimum of 45 satellites required for effective service. The delays could hinder AST's competitive positioning in the satellite communications market, potentially affecting partnerships and market entry strategies.
