Athens to Modernize Urban Bus Fleet with 1,100 New Vehicles by 2027
Athens plans to modernize its urban bus fleet by 2027 with over 1,100 new vehicles, enhancing public transport and green mobility. The program, managed by OSY, has already added 740 new buses since 2024, with further increases expected. The fleet will transition to low or zero emissions, including electric and hydrogen-powered buses, and will be fully accessible. Infrastructure upgrades are also planned to support the new vehicles.

Athens is modernizing its urban bus fleet by 2027, introducing over 1,100 new vehicles to improve public transport and promote greener mobility. The Athens Urban Transport Organisation's bus operator OSY has already incorporated 740 new buses since 2024, with plans to reach 865 by May.
By 2027, the fleet will consist entirely of modern vehicles equipped with advanced technology and low or zero emissions. A pilot program for hydrogen-powered buses is planned, alongside infrastructure upgrades including high-capacity chargers and a hydrogen refueling station. This modernization aims to enhance service reliability and passenger experience.
