The City of Atlanta has settled a lawsuit with Chattahoochee Riverkeeper concerning pollution discharged into the Chattahoochee River from the RM Clayton Water Reclamation Center. The environmental group filed the suit in September 2023, alleging unauthorized discharges of pollutants, including ammonia and harmful bacteria, due to poor facility management.

The settlement includes the city reaffirming its commitment to invest millions in upgrades and repairs. Many repairs have begun, and the facility's discharges are now compliant with regulations. The RM Clayton facility is the largest wastewater treatment plant in Atlanta, permitted to release up to 100 million gallons of treated wastewater daily.
