Audi Launches Edge Cloud for Production Project with Cisco to Transform Manufacturing

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Audi has initiated the Edge Cloud for Production (EC4P) project to transition to a software-defined factory, reducing reliance on hardware. This project replaces numerous hardware components with a centralized server cluster, enhancing production agility and cybersecurity.

Cisco has been a key partner for over six years, contributing to the infrastructure that supports the EC4P initiative. The project allows Audi to deploy software updates globally and reconfigure production lines efficiently.

Cisco's Software-Defined Access modernizes network architecture, facilitating seamless integration between production zones and data centers. This collaborative effort, involving Cisco, Siemens, and VMware, included rigorous testing to validate the EC4P architecture's viability. As a result, Audi has improved security, reduced costs, and enhanced overall equipment effectiveness across its production facilities.
