Aura Power has obtained planning permission for a 100MW/400MWh battery energy storage system in Sandford, North Somerset. The project will connect through existing National Grid infrastructure, with a focus on expediting the connection date amidst ongoing reforms.
Only battery energy storage systems with 'protected' connections will link to the grid before 2035. Aura Power is also developing a similar 4-hour duration BESS in Capenhurst, Cheshire. The company aims to achieve 1GW of ready-to-build solar and battery projects in the UK by 2028. This development must deliver biodiversity enhancements, although specific measures were not detailed.
