Aurora Botnia Completes Major Retrofit with 10.4-MWh AYK Energy Battery System

ENERGY STORAGE

Aurora Botnia has been retrofitted with a 10.4-MWh AYK Energy battery system, increasing its total energy storage to 12.6 MWh. This upgrade, completed at Turku Repair Yard in Finland, surpasses the previous largest marine battery retrofit on Aida Prima by 500 kWh.

The retrofit is projected to reduce fossil energy use by around 10,000 MWh annually and decrease emissions by nearly 25%. The project was a collaboration between AYK Energy, Wärtsilä, and Foreship. The upgrade allows Aurora Botnia to operate more sustainably on the green corridor route between Vaasa, Finland, and Umeå, Sweden, ahead of its goal for carbon-neutral operations by 2025.
