Austal, Curtin University, and AMCRC Launch Additive Manufacturing Research Project
Austal, Curtin University, and AMCRC have initiated an 18-month project with a budget of AUS $600,000 to enhance additive manufacturing in Australia’s maritime and defence sectors. The project aims to develop a comprehensive framework for assessing thousands of components to identify those that benefit from additive manufacturing.

Austal, Curtin University, and the Additive Manufacturing Cooperative Research Centre (AMCRC) have commenced an 18-month research initiative with a funding of AUS $600,000 to develop a framework for evaluating the suitability of components for additive manufacturing. This framework aims to streamline the identification of high-value opportunities in the maritime and defence sectors by assessing components against operational, commercial, technical, and regulatory criteria.
The methodology will draw on Austal's experience with the US Navy's Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence. The expected outcomes include enhanced decision-making for manufacturers and improved confidence in scaling additive manufacturing adoption across various sectors.
