Funding will be sourced through federal and state loans, local revenue bonds, and assistance from the Texas Water Development Board.

Austin Water is requesting a $600 million increase for the Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion, bringing the total to $1.5 billion. The facility, originally opened in the 1970s and currently processing 75 million gallons per day, aims to increase capacity to 100 million gallons by 2032 due to population growth.
City Council will consider this request on March 12, along with an increase in federal loans under the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act to a total of $1 billion. The expansion is essential for meeting regulatory requirements and managing future wastewater flows. The project involves multiple contracts, including a $900 million agreement for engineering work.
