Australia Identifies High-Potential Rare Earth Sites Under Resourcing Australia's Prosperity Program

STRATEGIC MINERALS

The Albanese Government's $3.4 billion Resourcing Australia's Prosperity program has identified potential deposits of heavy rare earth elements, including dysprosium and terbium, in remote areas of Western Australia and the Northern Territory. The initiative, led by Geoscience Australia, aims to fully map Australia over 35 years, providing free data to aid exploration and development of minerals and resources.

High-potential sites were identified through analysis of geological unconformities, linking time gaps to heavy rare earth mineral systems. This program supports the government's Critical Minerals Strategy, which includes a focus on gallium, antimony, and rare earths, contributing to a broader government effort worth approximately $28 billion to strengthen Australia's critical minerals sector.
