Ava Community Energy Launches $11M SmartHome Battery Program in Northern California
Ava Community Energy has introduced the SmartHome Battery program, allocating over $11 million to incentivize residential solar and battery storage installations. This initiative aims to enhance local grid resilience and affordability in the wake of recent legislative changes affecting the solar industry.

Ava Community Energy has launched the SmartHome Battery program, with an investment exceeding $11 million to assist residents in adopting solar and battery storage solutions. The program offers two incentives: an installation rebate to reduce upfront costs and ongoing payments for participating in Ava's virtual power plant (VPP) during grid events.
Eligibility is extended to all customers installing program-approved home batteries, with enrollment on a first-come, first-served basis. This initiative is particularly relevant following the introduction of the Solar Billing Plan in 2023 and the cessation of federal tax incentives at the end of 2025, which have increased financial pressures on customers. The program may improve local grid stability while providing economic benefits to participants.
