Avista Unveils Eastern Washington's First Community Microgrid at MLK Center
Avista has launched the first community microgrid in Eastern Washington, enhancing energy reliability at the MLK Center in Spokane. This initiative ensures operational continuity during power outages, benefiting essential services in the community.
Avista has introduced the first community microgrid in Eastern Washington, operational at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Family Outreach Center in Spokane.
This microgrid integrates solar panels, battery storage, and natural gas backup, ensuring the center's functionality during power outages. On regular days, the MLK Center primarily relies on the main electric grid but also generates some power independently, reducing costs.
In emergencies, the microgrid will allow the center to remain open, supporting community needs. The project aims to enhance grid reliability and explore innovative energy solutions.
