AWS Launches European Sovereign Cloud to Enhance Data Security in Germany

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched a European Sovereign Cloud aimed at addressing data security concerns for European users. This service operates independently from U.S. data centers, providing legal and physical separation to enhance data protection.

The initiative responds to increasing demand for secure cloud alternatives in Europe, particularly due to the U.S. Cloud Act. The first data center is being developed in Brandenburg, Germany, as part of a broader investment plan exceeding 7.8 billion euros.

The cloud service will be managed by a German company, ensuring compliance with European standards and data sovereignty. Competitors like Microsoft and Google are also increasing their investments in European data infrastructure to meet similar security demands.
