AWS has won a £472.8 million contract to provide data center services to the UK's HMRC, running from April 2026 to April 2033, with a possible extension to April 2036. This contract will involve assisting HMRC in exiting its three managed data centers currently operated by Fujitsu.
AWS was the only company to submit a tender, succeeding other bidders like Oracle, Google, IBM, and Microsoft. HMRC has spent £367.25 million on AWS services to date. The move comes amid scrutiny of Fujitsu, prompting HMRC's shift away from their data centers. AWS is also developing a new data center in London and a tape library facility near Bristol.
