Aypa Power to Launch Fergus Battery Energy Storage System by Mid-2027
Aypa Power LLC announced that its battery energy storage system (BESS) in Fergus will start operations in mid-2027. The facility, located at 6235 Guelph St., will cover 4.6 hectares and is expected to generate up to 200 MW or 800 MWh of energy, supporting six to eight full-time jobs. Construction was approved last September and was initially planned to begin last fall, creating 200 to 300 jobs. Aypa, in partnership with Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation, secured $700 million in financing for this and another BESS project in Haldimand County.

Aypa Power LLC's battery energy storage system (BESS) in Fergus is set to commence commercial operations in mid-2027. The facility, covering 4.6 hectares at 6235 Guelph St., will generate up to 200 MW or 800 MWh of energy and support six to eight full-time jobs.
Initially, construction was expected to start last fall, creating 200 to 300 jobs. Aypa, along with Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation, has secured approximately $700 million in financing from an eight-bank syndicate led by CIBC and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation to support this project and another planned in Haldimand County. The BESS is considered temporary, with plans for decommissioning and restoration by 2052.
