Azerbaijan Achieves First International Carbon Credits through Hydro-3 Renewable Energy Project
Azerbaijan's Hydro-3 project, a collaboration between SOCAR Trading and AzerEnergy, has secured the country's first international carbon credits, certified by Gold Standard. Registered on May 28, 2025, the project covers two small hydroelectric power plants in Lachin and was officially presented with 10,745 carbon units on January 28, 2026, contributing to greenhouse gas reduction from April 2024 to August 2025. This milestone reflects Azerbaijan's commitment to its green energy strategy and highlights the renewable energy potential of the Karabakh region.

Azerbaijan has acquired its first international carbon credits through the Hydro-3 project, a partnership between SOCAR Trading and AzerEnergy. The project, involving the Mirik and Garagishlag hydroelectric power plants in the Lachin district, was registered by Gold Standard on May 28, 2025.
On January 28, 2026, it received 10,745 carbon units, indicating a measurable reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from April 2024 to August 2025. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of Azerbaijan's green energy strategy and the recognition of the Karabakh region's renewable energy capabilities.
