Baleares Promotes Green Hydrogen Initiatives for Energy Strategy
The Balearic government is advancing green hydrogen production and consumption initiatives to enhance its energy strategy and meet EU climate goals.

The Balearic government plans to enhance its energy strategy by promoting green hydrogen initiatives, as confirmed by Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro during his visit to the first renewable hydrogen fuel cell at Iberostar Waves Bahía hotel in Palma. This facility will consume at least eight tons of renewable hydrogen annually, covering over 70% of the hotel's thermal needs and part of its electrical consumption, demonstrating the potential of hydrogen in reducing fossil fuel dependence and aiding the energy transition in key sectors like tourism. The project is part of the European Green Hysland initiative, supported by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, involving over 30 public and private entities.
