Ballarat Coalition Launches Growth Initiative Ahead of 2026 Election
A coalition of eight organizations in Ballarat has initiated 'Ballarat. Now and Into the Future: Enabling Growth 2026' to secure necessary infrastructure and investment as the city's population is projected to grow to 164,365 by 2046. Central to the initiative is The Gold Vault, a new 1,000 square-metre visitor experience expected to attract an additional 74,000 visitors annually.

The population of Ballarat reached 121,050 in 2024 and is expected to grow significantly by 2046. The campaign proposes 17,200 new homes in the Ballarat West Growth Area and 6,000 homes in the North Growth Area.
Key projects include the Housing and Growth Enabling Infrastructure Package, which encompasses vital infrastructure improvements, and the Circular Economy Precinct aimed at fostering waste innovation. The Gold Vault will serve as a major tourist attraction by showcasing rare artefacts and is anticipated to enhance the local economy. Advocacy for investment is crucial to address challenges in housing and services as growth continues.
