HYDRO POWER

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council in Bangladesh is set to review a proposal for the Padma Barrage Project aimed at improving water management from India. If approved, the project at Pangsha in Rajbari is expected to be completed by June 2033, with an estimated cost of Tk 50,443.64 crore.

The interim government has revived the project after it was shelved by the previous Awami League regime. The project will address the impacts of India's Farakka barrage, enhance irrigation, and support hydropower and navigation.

Additionally, a 1,000-bed Bangladesh-China Friendship Hospital proposal in Nilphamari is under review, costing Tk 2,293 crore, with China providing Tk 2,220 crore as a grant. The hospital aims to serve 1.76 crore residents in the northern region and patients from neighboring countries. China is also willing to help build two more hospitals in Bangladesh.
