Banksia Minerals Receives $5 Million from ARENA for Copper Production Pilot Project
Queensland startup Banksia Minerals has been awarded up to $5 million in funding from ARENA to support a copper production pilot project. The project aims to enhance Australia's critical minerals capability and facilitate the transition to clean energy. The funding is part of ARENA's Advancing Renewables Program, delivered in two stages over three years, to assist in developing a pilot plant that processes low-grade copper efficiently while reducing energy use and emissions.

Banksia Minerals will receive up to $5 million from ARENA to advance its copper production pilot project, enhancing Australia's critical minerals capability and aiding the clean energy transition. The funding, from the Advancing Renewables Program (ARP), is structured in two stages over three years and aims to de-risk the development of Banksia's pilot plant, transitioning it from lab prototype to field demonstration.
The technology enables efficient processing of low-grade copper while minimizing energy consumption and emissions. ARENA's support underscores the importance of innovation in meeting rising copper demand amidst supply constraints.
