Barakah Nuclear Plant Bolsters UAE's AI Infrastructure Readiness
The Barakah nuclear facility's early construction has allowed the UAE to meet increasing power demands for AI infrastructure. As global data center electricity consumption is projected to double by 2030, the UAE's proactive energy strategy has positioned it ahead in the AI race.

The Barakah nuclear power plant, initiated in 2010, currently generates approximately 40 terawatt-hours of electricity annually, fulfilling about 25% of the UAE's energy needs. Projections from a 2007 study indicated the UAE would require 40,000 megawatts by 2020, with existing capacity only at 20,000 megawatts.
The plant's establishment has provided the foundational power necessary for the burgeoning AI sector, which is critical as the International Energy Agency forecasts a doubling of global data center electricity consumption to around 945 terawatt-hours by 2030. Early investments in technology and leadership foresight have enabled the UAE to sidestep the grid constraints and permitting delays facing other nations, positioning it as a leader in AI infrastructure development.
