Barbados Explores Ocean Energy Projects with International Consultancy
The Government of Barbados has engaged six international consultants to evaluate ocean energy project possibilities, including offshore wind and Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC). This initiative aims to align with the nation's ambitious net zero target by 2030.

An assessment for ocean energy projects in Barbados is underway, focusing on offshore wind and OTEC. The project involved resource modeling and environmental analysis to pinpoint suitable sites, with technical designs developed by Ramboll and Makai for turbines, foundations, and OTEC systems.
Financial viability was evaluated through cost analysis and market testing with CmY Consultants, while regulatory recommendations were made in collaboration with JFC Consulting. Additional studies on tourism and supply chain impacts were conducted to gauge potential benefits. Workshops were held to share findings with government stakeholders, aligning with Barbados' 2030 net zero goals.
