Barboursville is set to decommission its wastewater treatment lagoon with a $5 million EPA grant. This project will upgrade the existing wastewater system and reclaim 22 acres for development, particularly commercial retail.
Sewage will be redirected to the Pea Ridge Public Service District's sewer plant, which is finalizing a $30 million expansion to handle an average of 3.5 million gallons per day. The overall project cost exceeds $20 million, funded by previous federal support and local allocations. The decommissioning process has been approved by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, with completion expected by March.
