Base Power Launches Home Battery Systems in Illinois Amid PJM Grid Challenges
Base Power has begun selling home battery systems in Illinois, targeting PJM Interconnection's electricity demand. The company's batteries offer rates 25% lower than local utility ComEd, addressing the region's rising electricity costs.

Base Power has entered the Illinois market with its home battery systems, marking its first initiative in the PJM Interconnection territory. The company aims to alleviate the region's electricity challenges, where wholesale prices have nearly doubled over the past year due to high data center density and insufficient new generating sources.
Base's residential batteries, starting at 25 kilowatt-hours, are priced 25% lower than those of utility ComEd. Furthermore, Base has secured over 500 megawatt-hours of battery storage in Texas, optimizing electricity dispatch during peak demand. This launch follows a recent $1 billion funding round, enhancing its capacity to meet increasing demand in PJM, which has struggled with adopting new technologies.
