Batam Data Center Investments Exceed Rp120 Trillion with Major AI Center Planned
Investment in Batam's data center sector has surpassed Rp120 trillion, signaling a shift towards a technology-driven economy. The AI Data Centre, valued at Rp88 trillion, is set to commence in 2027, highlighting the region's potential as a digital hub.

The total investment in data centers in Batam has exceeded Rp120 trillion, with the largest project being the AI Data Centre from EGSB/Range IDC, valued at Rp88 trillion. This project will be implemented in three phases from 2027 to 2030 and is projected to require around 580 megawatts of electricity at full capacity.
Local workforce development is a priority, with a need for 700 to 800 professionals to support operations. The region has seen a surge in related investments, including projects from Princeton Digital Group (Rp15 trillion) and others, emphasizing the need for skilled labor in various technical fields.
The shift towards digital infrastructure is set to transform Batam's economy away from manufacturing, although the demand for labor may decrease post-construction due to automation. Ensuring local talent is prepared for these opportunities is critical for sustainable growth.
