BC Ferries Selects Everllence Engines for Hybrid-Electric Ferries
BC Ferries will utilize Everllence medium-speed engines for four hybrid-electric ferries being constructed in China, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing emissions. The project marks a significant investment of C$1 billion, the largest in BC Ferries' history, with an operational timeline extending to 2031.

BC Ferries has selected Everllence B&W 32/44CR engines for four new hybrid-electric ferries, to be built in China. The total investment for the New Major Vessel program is C$1 billion, with C$690 million allocated for ferry construction and C$310 million for charging infrastructure.
The first vessel is set for service in 2029, with all expected operational by 2031. Each ferry will feature a battery storage capacity of up to 70 MWh, supporting hybrid operations. The project aims to replace aging vessels and facilitate a transition to fully electric service.
Local support from Everllence's PrimeServ Canada will ensure technical assistance post-delivery. The ferries are critical for connectivity in British Columbia's transportation system.
