BC Hydro Initiates North Coast Transmission Line Construction
BC Hydro has announced the start of construction for the North Coast Transmission Line, with significant economic implications. The project is projected to generate 9,700 direct jobs, add $9.85 billion to the GDP, and create $1 billion in annual tax revenue upon completion.

Construction for the North Coast Transmission Line (NCTL) by BC Hydro will commence in July 2026, with a total investment of $6 billion for the first two phases. The first phase involves a 170-kilometre segment from the Williston substation to Glenannan, while the second phase will extend 275 kilometres to the Skeena substation, with completion expected by 2032.
The project aims to create 9,700 direct jobs and contribute $9.85 billion annually to British Columbia's GDP. Phase 3, which will extend the line to Bob Quinn Lake, is scheduled for completion by 2034.
Local hiring and procurement are prioritized, enhancing community engagement and economic opportunities. Overall, the NCTL is expected to significantly facilitate regional electrification and support economic development initiatives.
