BCDP Launches Phase VIII to Mark 30 Years of Community Investment in Jamaica

STRATEGIC MINERALS

The Bauxite Community Development Programme (BCDP) is launching Phase VIII in 2026, marking its 30th anniversary of community investment in Jamaica. Established in 1996 and managed by the Jamaica Bauxite Institute (JBI), BCDP has reinvested earnings from the bauxite and alumina industry into mining-affected communities, completing seven phases and investing nearly $1 billion.

Phase VII, from September 2020 to August 2024, spent $220 million on agriculture, infrastructure, scholarships, and training. Phase VIII is now underway with $400 million in funding received in December 2025, focusing on strengthening livelihoods and rural development across Jamaica's bauxite-producing regions.
