Bekaert has announced a €55 million write-down after pausing electrolyser component production at its Bekintex site in Wetteren, Belgium. The pause was attributed to slow development in the green hydrogen market, with the company reporting consolidated sales of €3.7 billion for 2025.

Bekaert manufactures porous transport layers for PEM and AEM electrolyser systems. The electrolyser sector is currently facing challenges with project delays and an oversupply of manufacturing capacity, with Hydrogen Europe estimating the EU's electrolyser manufacturing capacity at 12GW while annual deployment is anticipated to remain below 5GW through the decade.
