Bellaire Advances Phase 1 of Cypress Ditch Drainage Improvement Project
Bellaire is advancing with Phase 1 of the Cypress Ditch project, part of the Regional Drainage Improvement Program, to mitigate flooding. The initial phase includes decommissioning the existing wastewater treatment plant and constructing north and south basins.
Bellaire is awaiting a land swap agreement with Houston for wastewater treatment. Once finalized, the city plans to upgrade its lift station to transport wastewater to Houston's facility. The project aims to increase stormwater capacity by 60% and is expected to complete the south basin by Q1 2027 and the north basin by Q3 2028.
Channel projects are projected to finish by Q4 2029. A $15 million funding request from the Harris County Flood Control District is pending.
