Bellevue Gold Mine Achieves 155 Hours on 100% Renewables
The Bellevue gold mine in Western Australia has completed a record 155 hours operating on 100% renewable energy. This milestone underscores the potential for renewable energy integration in remote mining operations, with implications for energy sector sustainability.

Bellevue Gold Mine operated for 155 consecutive hours on 100% renewables, outperforming its original target of 80% renewable energy. The facility, powered by 27 MW of solar, 24 MW of wind, and 15 MW of battery storage, achieved an average renewable share of 93.8% in March.
This achievement marks a possible world first for off-grid mines, surpassing smaller operations like Kings Island. Other mines, such as Lynas Gold and Liontown Resources, have also reported high renewable shares, with Lynas reaching 95.7% in the March quarter. The trend indicates potential resilience against rising diesel prices while highlighting the evolving landscape of renewable energy in mining.
