Bengaluru Road Project Stalled for Two Decades Amid Rising Congestion
A 6.2-km road in Bengaluru, proposed in 2015, remains incomplete due to land acquisition and environmental hurdles, worsening traffic. With over 15,000 new flats occupied or nearing completion, the lack of infrastructure is leading to increased congestion and longer commute times for residents.

The stalled 6.2-km road linking Gunjur to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) was intended to alleviate traffic congestion in east Bengaluru, but it has faced delays for nearly 20 years. Key obstacles include 6 acres of forest land, a KPTCL substation, and private properties, with forest clearance being the primary issue.
Residents have reported significant increases in commute times and traffic as new housing developments exceed existing infrastructure. An estimated 15,000+ flats have been occupied or are nearing completion in the area.
Coordination failures among multiple agencies hinder progress, while alternatives like upgrading existing roads are suggested. Local residents are demanding a halt to new building permissions, asserting that developers mislead buyers by promoting projects based on the incomplete CDP road. This situation poses risks for future urban planning and environmental sustainability.
