Bharti Airtel and Investors to Inject $1 Billion into India's Data Centers
Bharti Airtel, led by billionaire Sunil Mittal, and investors will invest $1 billion in data center projects in India. This initiative aims to capitalize on AI-driven growth in the world's most populous nation.

An investment of $1 billion is set for data center projects in India, led by Bharti Airtel and various investors. Subject to regulatory approval, three U.S. private equity firms will contribute to Nxtra Data, Airtel's data center unit, with Alpha Wave Global investing $435 million, Carlyle $240 million, and Anchorage Capital $35 million.
Nxtra currently operates 14 data centers with a total capacity of about 300 megawatts and aims to expand this to 1 gigawatt. The Indian data center market is experiencing rapid growth, with Mumbai's capacity having increased by 42% in the past year. Significant investments in digital infrastructure are also being made by Reliance Industries and Adani Enterprises, each planning to invest $100 billion in the sector.
