Bitdeer Proposes Data Center in Niles Amid Community Concerns
Bitdeer is proposing a data center in Weathersfield Township, requiring land annexation by Niles. The project, employing local contractors, aims to start construction in fall and utilize 500,000 gallons of water daily.

Bitdeer, a Singapore-based AI company, presented a plan to construct a data center on the former Ohio Edison site in Weathersfield Township, Niles. The project requires the annexation of land and aims to start construction in fall, with an estimated completion time of two years.
The center, which would use 500,000 gallons of water daily, builds upon Bitdeer's existing $300 million facility in Massillon. Councilman Aaron Johnstone raised concerns about the project's implications, suggesting a potential six-month moratorium on data centers. Community members expressed skepticism regarding resource usage and environmental impact, highlighting discrepancies between the proposed and existing facilities.
