Bitdeer to Convert Norwegian Mining Farm into 180 MW AI Data Center for NVIDIA
Bitdeer Technologies Group will transform its Tydal data center in Norway into a 180 MW AI facility for NVIDIA's Vera Rubin platform, scheduled for completion by December 2026. This shift reflects a broader trend in the cryptocurrency sector, where operators are reallocating energy-intensive mining operations towards AI infrastructure due to changing market dynamics.

Bitdeer Technologies Group has partnered with Data Center Installations AS (DCI) to convert its Tydal data center in Trøndelag, Norway, into a 180 MW AI installation. The project aims to support NVIDIA's Vera Rubin AI platform, with completion anticipated by December 2026.
The DCI, a subsidiary of Sparc Group AB, will oversee the design, installation, and commissioning of the facility. This transition aligns with a broader industry trend of repurposing high-energy data centers for AI workloads, driven by increasing demand for AI accelerator clusters and access to renewable energy sources. The shift may pose risks for traditional mining operations as companies like CoreWeave and Bitfarms also pivot to AI, reflecting market pressures on cryptocurrency mining.
